Cut through the fluff and learn how sites such as indeed, Resume Worded, and Teal helps users to land their next job without breaking the bank.

Whether you’re looking to switch careers or need your next opportunity after facing a layoff, we could all use some help to make our lives easier while on the hunt. In this post, I'll provide you with four resources that, while they might not instantly land you a job, will help you narrow down your options and, in the end, simplify your life

You need low-cost or free solutions when looking for your next opportunity because the last thing you want to do is spend more money on something that seems to be going nowhere.

In today’s article, we'll cover the following 4 sites and how much I paid:

How Many Applications DOES it take?

Did you know that a job seeker may need to submit 80–100 applications before receiving a single offer? Just one! If you have been lucky enough to not have had to search for a new job within the past 15 years, this may sound absurd but it is true.

With buttons such as ‘Easy Apply’ on LinkedIn (DON’T apply that way by the way) or ‘Apply with your LinkedIn profile’, your resumes become thrown into the line with 300 other applications in one click.

It is helpful to have a LinkedIn profile especially if you do any work where you can build a portfolio for yourself, but it is also worth noting that the majority of roles are found through networking (word of mouth). Considering that almost 60% of jobs are obtained through networking, consider the people you know both personally and professionally who either work in a field similar to your own or one that you would be open to transferring to before you start your search (or continue searching). Don’t worry about your level of expertise yet, just make the connection first.

Try reaching out to them in person or giving them a call to catch up. Check in with them and let them know you're looking for your next opportunity. You never know who or what they might know.

Resume Worded

Make sure your resume is up to date and ready to go at all times. It must be error-free, well-formatted, and demonstrate the skill sets required for the position for which you are seeking. Resume Worded is ideal for you if, like me, you had to start from scratch or if yours is out of date. You can get immediate, personalized feedback by uploading your resume for free (yep, artificial intelligence, or A.I., is integrated to assist in creating those killer bullet points). You can also get resume samples, customized feedback on your Cover letter (CV) AND LinkedIn profile, role-specific resume covers, and more if you upgrade to a PRO membership!

When I first started using the service, I noticed a special for $36.30 per month, which at the time was 20% off. It was the greatest $36 I've ever paid because it can be difficult to create or update a résumé. If you are determined enough, one month would be all you need for this site.

Teal

Teal is beginning to appear in nearly every post on Linkedin and for a good reason. As with Resume Worded, Teal is a second instrument to help enhance your job search.  It also helps job seekers plan and stay organized during their search by enabling them to bookmark any job across job boards. It gets better!  Here are some of the other features you can utilize Teal for:

  • Learn about different industries and what it takes to enter them

  • Save jobs you apply for to your bookmarks, then monitor your application status.

  • Resources to customize your resume for each job

  • Career development resources include podcasts to listen to and an assessment of your Work Style.

  • And More!

Teal is completely free to use. Unlimited resumes, resume templates, job tracking, basic resume keyword matching, top five keywords, one email template per job stage, and basic resume builder analysis are all included in the free plan.

You get EVERY feature listed above PLUS MORE with Teal +. View the pricing and feature list for all the pro features here.

I only used the free subscription to assist me in finding my next job. But, I could have had access to so much more for just $9 every seven days, so feel free to choose what suits your needs.

Indeed

Now that you've updated your resume (and cover letter) and are actively seeking a job, Indeed can be quite helpful in several ways. Indeed is well-known for its job postings, resume uploading feature, and company searchability.

Furthermore, because of its well-written articles covering a variety of topics to aid during every stage of the job search process, Indeed proved to be the most beneficial resource in my search.

Here are 3 sample articles published by Indeed:

The nicest part about Indeed is that it's completely free. You can access job posts and articles without a membership.

Self-Made Millennial (On Youtube)

Finally, but just as importantly, the Self Made Millennial YouTube channel is perfect for you if you learn best visually. Madeline Mann, a specialist in both recruiting and human resource management, founded the channel Self Made Millennial. Madeline uses her channel to deep dive into how to best answer job and behavioral interview questions.

Here are a few videos that I found to be particularly helpful along the way:

Interviewing is an art, believe it or not. HOW you carry yourself and respond to a question can eliminate you from receiving an offer letter before you even finish the interview. Naturally, YouTube is free, and this channel also hosts classes that you can take advantage of if you need assistance honing your interviewing techniques or finding your next job.
